Trust God When You’re Afraid

This Weekend in MC Park, in Sunday School (4s through 5th) and Elementary Worship, your child will learn about the story of crossing the Red Sea.

The Israelites Cross the Red Sea

You can review the story in Exodus 13:17-14:31. A great memory verse for your family this week is Psalm 23:4b – “I will fear no evil, for you are with me”

Questions for review with your child:

1.     How do you think the Israelites felt as the crossed the Red Sea?
2.     Can you trust God when you are afraid?
3.     What can we do to show God that we trust him?
4.     Why does God want us to trust him?
5.     How do you think God feels when we don’t trust him?
6.     Have you ever been afraid?
7.     Can you think of a time you were afraid and trusted God to help you?
8.     How can trusting God When you’re afraid help you feel calm?
9.     How can you remember that God is taking care of you?
10.  How does following God help you trust God when you’re afraid?

In Worship and Wonder on Saturday night, 9 a.m. & 11 a.m. Sunday, this week’s lesson:
Listening to God
This first lesson is about introducing children to the ways of Worship and Wonder.  Going through with them how we prepare to hear God’s word, how we silence ourselves in preparation and how we talk to God in our special place--that place is Worship and Wonder. The children are taught the songs and signs to Worship and Wonder songs:  Father I Adore You and Be Still and Know I am God.

The Israelites Escape from Egypt

You can review the story in
Exodus 11:1 – 12:36. A great memory verse for your family this week is John 8:36 – “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

1.    When have you been wrapped in a difficult circumstance?
2.    What can you learn from facing these kinds of situations?
3.    What can you learn about trusting God from the story?
4.    How does this story foreshadow Christ’s death?
5.    Read John 8:36, in what ways is sinning like enslaving yourself?
6.    What is it like to be set free from sin?
7.    Why is it important to understand this promise?
8.    What are ways you can demonstrate Christ’s freedom to your family?

3.    Have you seen God’s power in your own life?
4.    Why would God use his power to produce painful plagues?
5.    What can you learn about God through this story?
6.    Read Isaiah 41:10, why is it important to know this promise from God?
7.    How did you handle a fearful or overwhelming situation in your lifetime?
8.    Did you allow God to give you His peace, assurance, and strength?
